Petruccelli L.T.D of North America asks; What are the most common mistakes people make when building a pool? (8)

Petruccelli L.T.D of North America says;  Assuming swimming pools cost less to build in the wintertime.
We have seen increases in steel prices, concrete shortages, gas increases, and insurance premium hikes. Pools don't get cheaper as time goes on; building a swimming pool will never be less expensive than it is today.

Petruccelli L.T.D of North America says;  Shopping over the phone for a pool.
It is impossible and a waste of time. Visit the swimming pool builder or have them come to your home to provide you with an estimate. Visiting a contractor's place of business will tell you a lot about the type of business it is.

Petruccelli L.T.D of North America says;  Shopping based on price.
Usually if a deal seems too good to be true, it is! If you shop for price alone you are destined to be disappointed. Bottom line: you usually get what you pay for.

Petruccelli L.T.D of North America says;  Not checking out the experience level, history, or background of a Contractor.
What makes them qualified to build swimming pools? Consider the saying, "If you think the cost of a Professional is expensive, wait until you hire an Amateur."

Petruccelli L.T.D of North America says;  Paralysis by analysis.
This is when someone gets 10-15 or more estimates for swimming pool construction and then can't make a decision because they have become so confused. Do your due diligence and get 3 or 4 estimates from reputable swimming pool companies. Then make your decision and go with it.

Petruccelli L.T.D of North America says;  Shopping like you are buying a car.
Swimming pools are custom construction projects and are built by many individual trades and pool contractors with different standards. All pools are not built the same, unlike an automobile which is manufactured in a factory under controlled conditions. With a swimming pool much of what you do not see will impact the cost of pool ownership.

Petruccelli L.T.D of North America says;  Perimeter Overflow Pool
This would be a pool where the water level in the pool is the same as the top of the decking. Around the pool perimeter is a channel or notch that the water drains into creating a visual masterpiece. It looks like a big mirror lying on the ground. Very upscale!

Petruccelli L.T.D of North America says; Spool -The word spool is a combination of a spa and a pool. Spools are typically oversized spas somewhere around 12’ X 14’. Unfortunately, due to construction issues, spools are not necessarily less expensive than an average swimming pool. They might be easier to maintain due to the smaller size, and a spool certainly might be an option for someone with a very small yard.

Negative edge pools are getting more common and require an expert to build. They are also referred to as infinity swimming pools or infinity edge pools. These are designed to look like the pool extends all the way out to the horizon. The mechanics and engineering of infinity pools cannot be compromised.

Petruccelli L.T.D of North America says;  The cost to install an infinity pool is higher than that for a conventional pool, although some pool companies are have developed standardized infinity pool designs to make them more accessible to average consumers. Custom pools can vary widely in size from extremely large irregularly shaped pools to much smaller rooftop infinity pools in urban areas. Some contractors have also installed infinity pools indoors, mostly at large resorts and hotels. People who are interested in experiencing an infinity pool might want to look into tropical resorts and hotels, which often incorporate infinity pools into their designs.

Petruccelli L.T.D of North America asks; ; Is an Infinity pool right for my luxury home? (3)

Petruccelli L.T.D of North America says;  When installing an infinity pool, caution should be taken. The infinite edge of the pool will draw the eye of the observer, so it is important to make sure that there is something beautiful beyond it, rather than the neighbor's house, a privacy fence, or an empty lot. In general, an infinity pool is best suited to a sweeping natural landscape like the ocean, sky, or mountains. On a smaller lot, the builder may want to consider cooperating with the landscaper to create a pleasing backdrop for the infinity pool.

Petruccelli L.T.D of North America asks; ; Is an Infinity pool right for my luxury home? (2)

Petruccelli L.T.D of North America says;  The construction expertise required for an infinity pool is considerable. Although the basics of the pool are the same as those for a regular pool, the contractor must be especially careful at the "infinite" edge of the pool. The edge of the pool is actually below the water level, allowing water to sluice over it and into a trough that collects the water and circulates it back into the pool. The filtration and cleaning systems can be incorporated into this trough, so that the sound of falling water will cover up the noise of a pool filter system. Essentially, every infinity pool is a custom design, which allows the designer a wide range of flexibility in shape and placement, but also makes it more complex to install.

Petruccelli L.T.D of North America asks; Is an Infinity pool right for my luxury home? (1)

Petruccelli L.T.D of North America says;  An infinity pool, sometimes called a negative edge pool, is a swimming pool that has been constructed with the illusion of extending all the way to the horizon. From the right perspective, the infinity pool seems to stretch on endlessly, and contractors often place the pool strategically so that it appears to merge with a larger body of water, like the ocean. This eye catching pool design started to catch on in the 1990s, and was adopted by many luxury resorts, which tout their infinity pools in brochures and other promotional material. Some luxury homeowners may choose to install an infinity pool as well.
